ABOUT US
Mercury Store is a lab space. It offers theatre artists the opportunity to draft in three dimensions.
Mercury Store exists to prove a hypothesis:
Does providing resources - time, space, funding, community - make for better - more exciting, more weird, more intentional art - and happier people making it?
These are some of the things we think about:
LOW STAKES, HIGH EXPECTATIONS
A fundamental focus on supporting and exploring the theatre artist’s practice.
A commitment to and expectation of rigorous artistic experiment.
No requirement that any piece of art needs to meet an outside expectation, or indeed should be “finished.”
COMMUNITY
Direct lines of communication between staff and artists.
Open studios and process sharings to encourage conversation among artists and demystify the creative process.
Educational programs for theater artists of all disciplines and experience to work on their art and their craft, among peers and mentors.
FAIRNESS
An equitable allocation of resources to artists.
A healthy working environment: mutual respect, fair pay, reasonable working hours, care reimbursement, assignment of intimacy coordinators.
A commitment to working with artists across the artistic and demographic spectrum.
